New Electronic Class Roster/Grade Entry
UNM has a new electronic Class Roster/Grade Entry feature on the web
that will be updated every night. An instructor can view his/her Class
Roster on http://classlists.unm.edu and download it into an excel
file to record grades. There is not a link on the UNM homepage yet, and
when there is, we will link it from our homepage. Also, Class Roster has
your students UNM e-mail addresses, and you will be able to send
the entire class an e-mail or just individuals. If your students dont
have a UNM e-mail they will be excluded from your mail so please insist
that everyone in your class get a UNM e-mail address. To use this system,
you must meet these two conditions: (1) The person must be the instructor
of record according to the system (2) The person must have a NetID, which
means an email account ending with @unm.edu or math.unm.edu. All instructors
must have a UNM E-mail address by December 2002 so they can enter grades
for Fall 2002.
Note: If department administrators want access to class rosters
for the
whole department, they must have their department chair e-mail a request
to that effect to the Records Office.
New Website Announcement
The Research Compliance Services group in the Office of the Vice Provost
for Research has developed a website providing information with regard
to human subjects research, animal research and research ethics. The procedures,
policies and forms apply to all main campus research that involves human
subjects or animals in research protocols. Investigators are encouraged
to review the materials and become familiar with the requirements for
submission of protocols to the appropriate review and approval committees.
The Institutional Review Board (IRB) for human subjects research has adopted
a new set of application forms and a revised IRB Procedures Manual issued
June 2002. Among the changes include: a system of notifying investigators
of expiration dates for previously approved research; a format for submission
of Progress Reports; and Sample Consent Forms. The IRB staff will conduct
training sessions and specialized workshops starting in the fall semester
2002 for the benefit of students, faculty and research staff on main campus.
The dates and locations for these activities will be posted at the website
soon.Meanwhile, investigators are encouraged to begin utilizing the new
forms immediately. The forms are posted and can be downloaded at the website
address for Research Compliance Services: http://www.unm.edu/~rcs/. Hard
copies are available from the IRB office: Room 255, Scholes Hall, phone
277-2257. If you have any questions about the forms or if you need assistance,
please email the IRB office at: RCS@unm.edu.
MarchingOrder Graduation Software
Graduates in the Economics Department were able to individualize their
commencement ceremonies this year with MarchingOrder, a software program
that allows students to post their names, hometowns and or personal messages
on a giant screen as they pass through commencement exercises. UNM is
one of the first two schools in the country to utilize the software. Contact
Lourdes McKenna, Economics Department
Administrator, for more information. You can also read about it on the
