Assignment 2

The
purpose of this assignment was to familiarize ourseleves with some more of the
functionality of ArcMapTM .
We were to use the data given to us that consisted of 2 shapefiles – one of Pan Evaporation sites around New
Mexico and the other of the State of New Mexico, including county information.
Through
manipulating the display symbology and by examining the attribute table of each
respective shapefile,
we
were to “tell a story” of pan evaporation in New Mexico. By symbolizing the pan evaporation sites by
range,
I
aimed to show the geographic distribution of pan evaporation rates across the
state. With more information
(i.e. other data layers like average annual temperature) correlations could perhaps be shown.
This
assignment went smoothly, except that I could not copy the legen of my graph
into the display window. I
wanted
to include the graph on the layout to show the actual amount of annual evaporation
for each station.
Without the legend, the graph is more or
less irrelevant. A separate output of
the entire graph is shown below.

great feature of the graph, when displayed in ArcMapTM, is that when
you click on any of the graph elements
(i.e a line, bar, pie slice, etc.) a full table of its associated attributes is displayed).
