- Some college level courses in Information Technology.
- Five to eight years experience in information systems security functions.
- Knowledge
- Requires detailed knowledge of information systems security in terms of
what and how work is to be done as well as why it is done, this level includes interpretation of data
- A thorough understanding of the concepts of information systems security is required.
- Abilities
- Ability to make decisions are varied but are usually confined to situations which are familiar.
There are several defined alternative solutions available.
- Ability to exercise judgment in selection of the order of work assignments to meet clearly established schedules.
Unusual cases or schedule changes are often referred to the immediate supervisor for resolution.

Summary of Primary Functions
- Supervises IS security staff to include performance evaluations,
hiring and termination recommendations and disciplinary action if required.
- Supervises work scheduling and prioritization to assure deadlines are met.
- Assists in identifying, reporting, and resolving security violations.
- Participates in communicating security procedures and policies to user departments
- Provides guidance and direction for the physical protection of information systems assets to other functional units.
- Provides reports to superiors regarding effectiveness of data security and makes recommendations for the adoption of new procedures.
- Organize training and educational efforts for staff. Assures that IS security staff is adequately trained in all IS security policies and procedures.
- Prepares written documentation as required.
- Responds to and resolves problems and complaints.
- Evaluates and re-engineers department processes and procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings to provide information and communication.
- Performs duties of security analyst when needed.
- Provides on call support for after hours and weekend security problems as needed.
- Performs other functions as required.
