Job Title-Coordinator - Security
General Purpose
Under broad supervision, applies systems analysis and design techniques to the security
needs of complex computer systems with multiple users, or to complex one-user systems,
to produce innovative solutions for a variety of complex security problems. Gathers information
from users, defines work problems, and plans projects to enable analysts and programmers to secure
systems. There is no patient care assignment.
Position Accountabilities:
- The delivery of quality service and positive interaction with our customers is critical to the
completion of all the tasks within this job description.
- Assists in the implementation and management of PC Network Security to include:
Novell's NetWare Directory Services (NDS) Security Model and Novell Auditing,
Microsoft Windows NT Security Model and PC virus detection and protection.
- Analyzes user project proposals, identifies omissions and errors in requirements, and
conducts feasibility studies; recommends optimum approach and develops system
design for approved projects.
- Implements new and maintains existing complex security systems and subsystems for
systems such as inventory control, payroll, or financial/cost analysis in which
transactions are automatically processed through the full system of records; ensures reliability of applications.
- Reviews change control requests for security implications.-; implements and
documents security updates when published.
- Troubleshoots security on existing data structures and applications.
- Informally arbitrates between system users when conflicts arise.
- Prepares and gives presentations to user management.
- Provides on-call support and problem resolution for computer applications.
- Uses all phases of system analysis concepts, techniques, and methods to perform
assigned functions/duties.
- May serve as lead analyst in a design subgroup, directing and integrating the work of
analysts.
- Assists in enforcing EIA/TIA published standards for network equipment level
security.
- In cooperation with University Hospital Security Office staff, recommends physical
space security measures that will restrict and monitor access to areas of IS where
equipment and data are housed.
- Monitors system uses; takes appropriate steps to document and investigate alarms;
reports such incidents immediately to appropriate staff for action and resolution.
- Participates in the implementation, documentation, testing, and periodic review and
revision of business continuity of equipment and software
- Installs, configures and maintains firewalls necessary to protect hospital resources.

Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a related computer/technology area
Minimum Experience
- Five (5) years directly related experience; additional related degree may
substitute for part of the required experience.
Preferred Experience
- Six (6) years experience programming against relational data structures.
Physical Demands
- Heavy physical effort (lift/carry up to 50 lbs.)
- Manual dexterity and mobility
