MARTHA AND TOM HILL'S FAMILY EVENTS PAGE

We just love being out of the
hospital!

THERE IS BIG NEWS ABOUT TOM AND MARTHA!

After a week and two days in the Heart Hospital of New Mexico, GranMarfa was released with a couple of new items in her big heart. They call them "stents" and they allow two arteries that were had only a 10% capacity to return to full flow. Now that is a great, great accomplishment. But it necessitates that she receive special nursing and care of a physician for a period of up to a month.

Tom and Martha, with the help of some friends (family, that is), decided that it was the right time to test out some different (safe) living arrangements during this period. They decided to rent some space in the Montebello Senior Living Center in northeast Albuquerque for a while. This facility is the "Cadillac" (Tom's words) of senior living establishments in the state. We thought it would be nice for those of you who do not live in Albuquerque to see some scenes of the Montebello. The pictures were taken by Marianne Hill during a recent visit to the facility. First we will start out with some "people" photos and then give you a glance at some of the areas.

Finally, I get to hold Aaron! Hi! from the guest room at
Montebello!

While Eve was here she stayed in the guest room at the Montebello. Aaron was here and needed a nap so he crashed in Eve's room. When GranMarfa came in she grabbed the opportunity to hold him and we present the proof! And if you guess the persons in the photo on the right you win a quarter!

The above photos show two views of the entrance taken from the inside looking out. We are sorry these photos are a bit dark but we assure you that the entrance is very bright and inviting. (We are going to have a talk with our scanning specialist! The real photos are much brighter!) The left photo shows the area on your left as you enter. It has the desk which is manned by a person assisting people entering the center and serves as sort of a concierge for people coming to the facility and serving the guests as well. The right photo shows the area on your right as you enter. This entrance is bright and inviting and the people are sincere in their friendliness. As you enter if you look to your right you see a lounge area and a space for the drivers (yes, they provide transportation for the guests for a variety of services - and the vehicles they drive fit the overall ambience). Also on the right is a room with a lot of books on the shelves and an nice table for playing cards - there are lots of places to play cards, dominoes, board games and the like. And on the right is an elevator that goes to the second and third floors. GranMarfa and PapaTom will be in an apartment on the second floor. The apartment has a bit over 1000 sq. ft., two bedrooms, a livingroom/dining room, and an ample kitchen. It has a small balcony with a nice view of the Sandias. More about the apartment in a later update.

If you go through the entrance and do a half-turn left and keep walking you will enter the entertainment room. This is another well lighted room with a grand piano, a very large screen TV and an array of comfortable, elegant furnishings. Here they have music programs, lectures, Chautauqua, storytellers and the like. There is usually a tray with some Danish available for the residents. As you go through the room you enter a large rectangular room that has a wet bar and a number of tables. Here they serve a continental breakfast every morning and a happy hour at 4:30 for a small libation before dinner. This is also a popular room for playing card games. When we visited two lady guests all ready for a poker game with the chips neatly counted and staked. All they needed were the three other ladies to arrive. When you pass through this room you enter a spacious and tastily furnished and landscaped patio. A very nice place to take your coffee on a nice morning or your beverage during happy hour. We think you can tell which room has the piano and which is the patio. We don't have a shot of the breakfast/games/happy hour room yet.

The shot on the left is another view of a portion of the patio mentioned above. The one on the right is in a foyer as you exit the elevator on the second floor going the Hill's room. Also in this area is another small library with the appropriate furnishings for research, reading, or playing cards. Immediately outside the elevator is a computer, monitor and printer! How about that.

We are sorry that we don't have a picture of the dining room and other amenities but as we visit the Hills we will add to our album and share them with you. We want to keep your interest up in seeing more of Montebello and discovering all the services that GranMarfa and PapaTom will be enjoying. And we appreciate any comments or suggestions of what you would like to see or hear.

There is a web site for Montebello Senior Living you may wish to visit.
