Honey and David's new additions!

We have a couple of major events to report with this edition. Mary and David have a new car and a new puppy. We are going to devote the first section of this edition to the new puppy, also known as Beau or Beaux or Bow or Bo. Take your pick. Mary and David decided on Beau! Actually, Amber, the 12 year old breeder of the puppy named him Bo - but David and Mary forgot to ask her how she spelled it and Bo wouldn't tell us. So we selected Beau and he seems to like that spelling ok but he doesn't look at all French. Here are a few pictures taken when we first brought him home at age six weeks and two days, on February 8. He was born on December 26.

Don't know if I'll like this new
place. I hope they don't expect me to spend
much time in this cage!
Mary and David didn't expect to get Beau until February 14, but they had made some preparations - just the basics like a cage and pads and toys. David was scheduled for two weeks of Jury duty beginning on February 4. When Amber called on Tuesday, February 5 to say the pups were ready to be taken, David and Mary were taken aback. They talked it over and then asked Amber if it was alright to pick up Beau on Friday. They wanted the weekend to have together with Beau. Amber said sure - and David and Honey were relieved.

Hi!, Ann, recognize the chair? How boring!

The above are some more pictures taken when we got Beau that Friday. Amber and Deavon went with honey to get Beau and took him the the Vet for his first round of shots and then brought him home to 1604. After he sort of settled in the four - Honey, David, Amber and Deavon - had dinner and then they took Amber home. Beau did very little crying the first night - and Honey and David were lulled into a false sense of well being after that night. Beau was just sizing up the place and deciding how he was going to takeover now that he didn't have to obey his Mom. He's still trying to figure that out.

How many times am I going to have to
pose? This is a BIG couch!

As you can see, we were brave that first night. We took him into the living room for some photo ops. He was very agreeable, for the most part, that first night. We show the two photos so you can see his actual size in relation to the couch and the other the telephoto of him on the couch.

Enough is Enough! When do I get to
rest?
We though you might like to see Beau get his first bath at 1604. Since Honey and David had not bathed a puppy in quite some time (if ever) They thought it would be a good idea to invite Amber over to teach us how. And Deavon to help. These were very good moves! As you can see from the first picture below, Beau was not enamored with the activity. He liked the water just fine, but all the other stuff was too much to take. In the second photo you see the three bathers - David is taking the pictures - but he listened carefully to the instructions. Afterward he said it might be a good idea to have that job done by pros.

Is there an escape route anyplace?! David says: 'You three are doing a great
job!'

And finally, we just had to fit in this pose! In the next edition we will have some photo ops of Beau when he was 9 weeks old.

Beau says, 'How about putting a bone inthis
hand, Honey?

Now we come to the latest addition to the Darling family - our new Prius hybrid auto. We ordered it on September 4, 2001 and were told we would get it in 6 or 7 months. Well, February 4 was the 5-month mark. David expected that he would have a week or two notice before its arrival and during that time he would cash in some IRAs and have the money in the local bank ready for when the car arrived. Remember David started jury duty on Feb. 4 and was selected for a jury - a civil case that was likely to take all week -, which it did. On Monday Amber called and said Beau was ready to be picked up - but we told you about that above. Then on Tuesday, Jerry Davis, the Prius salesman, called and said the Prius was in! For the record, Jerry grew up one house away from us and was a playmate of our son, John. Now how were we going to shift the money and pay for it right away. Mary and David talked the matter over on Tuesday night and decided that Mary would call Jerry on Wednesday and see if they would hold it until we had the money shifted. He said yes but they preferred that we take it as soon as possible. He also said, "You guys are family - just postdate a check and drive it out." We didn't want to do that. Mary was also to call the IRA holder on Wednesday and see what needed to be done to sell some shares and get the money transferred electronically. The shareholders were very cordial and said they would have to have a form signed which guaranteed David's signature and then they would send the money as soon as possible. They faxed the necessary form that morning and fortunately one of the witnesses finished at 11:00 AM and the next witness was not due until 1:30 PM. So David went home for lunch and Mary filled him in on the phone calls of the morning. Now fortune had smiled, because of David's early lunch he could go the Credit Union and get his signature guaranteed. Mary then completed the form, took it to the Air Port Post Office Wednesday afternoon and sent it to Denver on one-day air. The IRA people got it on Thursday. But the money was not transferred electronically until the following Tuesday. On Wednesday, one week and one day after Jerry called we had our new car. There was one more hitch. Mary and David made an appointment with Jerry Davis to finsh purchasing the car on Wednesday. David thought they were not going to call him for another jury, but they die, for Wednesday the 13th! They decided to let the appointment remain and hope that David was not selected for a panel. As luck would have it, the case was settled before the jury was selected so David got home at 10:30 AM. They were set for the 1:30 appointment - but one problem remained - what would they do about Beau. After discussion they decided to give Mare a call. It so happened that Mare had a lot of paper work and phoning to do for her job and it was the kind of stuff that she could do at Mary and David's house and be with Beau. So Mare got a lot of uninterrupted work time dog sitting Beau and David and Mary were able to keep the appointment with Jerry Davis. So they were able to take delivery on Wednesday, February 13. Quite a week! And now we will show you some pictures of our latest addition.

David, Honey and Jerry Davis just as Honey and David were the owners and ready to go home. On the right, Honey and David just as they arrived home with their new car.

These are rather self explanatory.

A shot of our new Prius in the foreground and our beloved "Betsy" in the background. And that's it for this edition!
