GO, STEELERS! DEAVON MORAN

MARE DARLING

AND KEN TABISH

How's that for a double!? How's that for a run!? You're not scoring this
time!!

We know that we talked about Deavon's baseball in the last edition but we didn't have these photos at the time. We thought you would enjoy seeing the Dev in action. Now he is into golf. On August 20 he went out for his first lesson. Guess what? He blasted a 215 yard drive! How about that. Then he asked Honey to go with him for the next lesson on Sept. 1, which she did. When our editorial staff asked if the self reported 215 yard drive was within the Dev's possibility she said that, "YES! Definitely. He didn't practice the driver today but worked on the other clubs, but there is no question that the 215 yarder is an accurate report." Move over, you aspiring Tigers!

Mare, Ken and Dev took their bi-annual trip to Pennsylvania to see Ken's folks. They had a great trip. They took in many of the historical sites in this historic state, including Gettysburg. Now Dev can answer any questions on a history exam about the battle of Gettysburg. And a few more of the sites as well. One of Deavon's major accomplishments on this trip was that he conquered his fear of Roller Coasters. (Now David and Honey are not sure this is such a good thing - but you know how grandparents are.) They went to Kennywood Park where they have a raft of RCs - some are tame and some are very wild. The park contains some of the oldest and some of the most modern ones. Dev kept at it until his fear was gone. Now how about that!

While they were gone Honey and David took care of Rosie. Unfortunately Rosie has lost her sight, not due to old age but due to heredity and a virus. She was a good sport about going to a new home for two weeks, but vacillated between being depressed and happy. David took her on a walk (actually a run!) and this always lifted her spirits. She's an Australian sheep dog and has a strong need to run. Now the Dev takes her on a walk in his neighborhood each night. There are a group of people who visit the park with their dogs at the same time. Rosie, even being blind, now joins in the fun with the dogs playing together while Deavon and the adults talk. Deavon loves this.

Nice Wheels! We can't cover all the news for this family in this edition! That's how eventful they are. But we must talk about their new wheels. Ken's car was becoming unreliable. So was Mare's. Ken has an old VW convertible that has been parked in his driveway for a number of years - needing a lot of work. He had indicated to Dev that when he was old enough it would be restored and the Dev could drive it. When it became clear that Mare was needing new wheels they all sat down and decided that the VW should be fixed up and Mary should drive it. So that is what happened.

Turns your eye,
doesn't it?! That took care of Mare's needs but Ken still had to be concerned about his vehicle. After further family discussions it was decided that Ken would sell his car and buy a new, small SUV. So that's what happened. But Ken had to sell his car before he could order the new car. Which he did. But he had to wait about 9 weeks for delivery. David's '75 Dodge pickup came to the rescue. David lent Ken the Dodge until his new car was delivered. You can look at the pictures and try to figure out which is the new Ford Escape and which is the restored VW convertible. We think they made some very good and responsible decisions in all these matters.

Mare has applied for the position of Principal of one of APS's alternative high schools. She had her interview on Friday, August 31. She was good enough to share her responses to the interview questions with Honey and David after it was over. And they said she couldn't have done better. Her only deficiency, if you can call it that, is that she has not been full time in a specific school for a number of years. To counter this is the fact that she has been working and developing programs, alternative programs if you will, that address real district needs and that are not being met in the current curriculum and structure. We think it is a strength that she has been working with and through many schools rather than being in one school doing the usual stuff. But we'll have to wait and see if the district is that smart!

Ken is back at his counseling position at AHS. They have a new principal there this year - or maybe they do. After an unsuccessful search the Central Administration moved the Cibola principal to AHS. Now the Cibola parents are very upset and they really like the principal they are losing. We'll keep you posted on this.

Mare, Ken and Dev are going to the Lobo's opening game on September 1, 2001. They play UTEP and it will likely be a very tough game for both teams. Each needs to start out with a win to start the season but who will it be! Tune in to the next edition! GO, LOBOS!

LATE BULLETIN --- The Lobos did it. They smothered the Miners 26-6 with a record of over 41,000 fans in the renovated stadium. How about that!

That's it for Ken, Mare and Dev for this edition.
