    Topic: Differentiated Instruction and Inclusion

    Class outline:
4:20-4:30 Quick questions and quandaries. Announcements:
    • Next week is the last day of class – the final assignment is due at the start of class.
    • Class will probably end early, so if you arrive late and class is already dismissed, you will not be able to turn in your paper.
    • Last assignments will only be accepted under EXTRAORDINARY circumstances and with prior permission.
    • No regularly scheduled office hours during finals week. Please schedule an appointment with me if you want to meet.
    4:30-5:00 Interactive presentation: Lessons learned
    5:00-5:45 Small group activity:
    • Describe a “typical” lesson that you have seen or remember from school. (note, you can share a lesson that you access from a web site).
    • Identify aspects that might be a problem for different kinds of learners.
    • Come up with some ideas of how you can modify the content, process, and product to reach a wider range of learners.
Note: you might want to look on this web site ahead of time for ideas of different instructional strategies: http://www.readingquest.org/strat/home.html and on this web site for sample lesson plans: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/. You might also want to bring your case study book (Halmhuber & Beauvais, 2002) to class and use one of the case studies to get you started.

You may take a break, if needed, during the small group activity.

    5:45-6:00 Report out
    6:00-6:50 Make-up exam:
    • You MUST turn in your old mid-term before taking the test. If you do not have your old mid-term with you, you may not take the make-up. This was announced in the last class session when I discussed the make-up test.
    • This is a closed-book test; All papers, cell phones, backpacks, etc. must be put away before the test is distributed.
