Materials
Hunt
Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is twofold:
-
to collect a group of resources that you can
use when you are teaching, and
-
to learn how to obtain teaching materials.
Directions:
This is a pair assignment. With your partner,
you will develop a collection of materials around a particular topic or
theme that you both agree on (i.e. oceans, states, Harry Potter, the Rio
Grande, Martin Luther King, black bears, recycling). You must have multiple
examples of at least three kinds of resources:
-
internet resources (include the internet address
and a very brief description of the website)
-
community resources, such as museums, people,
special events, or organizations (include names, addresses, phone numbers,
or other necessary contact information), and
-
physical resources, such as books or other
hands-on materials (you don’t need to include the actual materials, just
a brief description, which should include where you can get these items,
if they are very specialized).
With your partner, you may want to
split your materials hunt into elementary and secondary level materials,
but this is not necessary. However, do not develop a set of materials exclusively
for one grade or age level -- make sure that your materials hunt will provide
you a good place to start, regardless of the grade level where you end
up teaching.
