Web-Based
Portfolio Assignment
Directions:
There are two main components to this
assignment:
1.) Web site: You will develop a web site on which you will include your final portfolio. You must publish your web site by Wednesday, May 12th (finals week) at 4:00 to receive credit for the web-based portfolio. There will be five in-class web site development tutorials to start you on the process of learning to use Netscape Composer for web site development. You will use this particular program for developing your web site, as it is available on most computers without cost. Therefore, it is a valuable resource for special educators who wish to use a web site as a teaching resource at their schools, where computer resources (and expensive web site publishing programs) are limited.
2.) Portfolio: You will develop a final portfolio, which you will publish to your web site. If you are unable or unwilling to develop a web site, a hard copy of the final portfolio can be turned in for a grade. The portfolio should include samples of your work in this class, any relevant assignments from prior classes, as well as resources (such as links to helpful web sites) identified over the course of the semester. You may organize your portfolio however you wish, but I highly recommend that you use the COE conceptual framework (included in your syllabus) as an organizational tool, and that you reference relevant criteria, such as the New Mexico State Department of Education and/or Council for Exceptional Children competencies.
The purpose of a portfolio is to demonstrate learning, therefore, a statement of your developing philosophies toward learning, teaching, special education, and/or individuals with disabilities would be relevant (but not mandatory).
You must include a reflection statement
about your learning process, including some explicit discussion of how
the items you have included on your web site have contributed to your learning
about special education and individuals with disabilities.
