    Instructional Strategy Description Assignment

    Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to:
    • research in-depth one common instructional strategy,
    • learn about additional instructional strategies through the work of your colleagues
    • develop collaboration skills via group work,
    • expand your research and writing abilities, and
    • practice presenting in front of an audience.

    Directions:
This is a small group assignment. Each member of your in-class collaborative group will be assigned a different intervention strategy. You will work in assigned teams (which will be different from your in-class collaborative groups) to research and describe one of the following interventions:

    • learning centers
    • graphic organizers
    • task analysis
    • cooperative learning
    • learning strategy instruction

Each team will turn in one collaborative report and be jointly responsible for presenting information about this strategy to the rest of the class.

Write-up: Your written report must be based on at least three credible* resources (all of which must be cited in the body of your paper), typed, double-spaced, in 12 pt font, 1” margins, and include a cover sheet and reference page. Your report must include:
    1)  a description of the intervention strategy (who, what, when, where, and how), as well as a clear rationale for this strategy, and
    2)  a detailed, concrete example of this intervention strategy.

Presentation: Your presentation should be no more than 20 minutes long. The format is up to your group -- decide within your intervention team what would be the most effective way to present your information. Try to be as creative as possible. Do provide at least one handout (or a copy of your report), so that the rest of your colleagues have something to take away with them about your particular strategy.
