Services
1. Statistical data analysis, data integration, and data ETL (extraction, transformation and loading) using SAS
2. Combining GIS (Geographic Information Systems) with SAS programming to analyze data and create maps for spatial analysis of data
3. Improve data quality with the ability to profile, cleanse, and match data during the ETL process
4. Maintenance and analysis of traffic crash and DWI data on behalf of the New Mexico Department of Transportation - Traffic Safety Division
SAS Statistical Data Analysis, Data Integration and Data ETL
The Traffic Research Unit (TRU) delivers data extraction/transformation capabilities and statistical analysis using SAS (Statistical Analysis System). Formerly the UNM Division of Government Research, we have specialized in SAS programming and statistical data analysis since 1975. Many of the projects undertaken by TRU require combining GIS, statistical, and database tools using SAS. According to the SAS website, "SAS is used at more than 60,000 sites in over 135 countries, including 90 of the top 100 companies on the 2012 Fortune Global 500 list."
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
TRU specializes in geospatial analysis, geocoding, georeferencing, and map production using ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) ArcGIS software. Our GIS work uses staff expertise in statistical data analysis and data integration using SAS. Our ESRI GIS software experience ranges from ESRI's first software product, ARC/INFO, through the most recent versions of ESRI ArcGIS products.
New Mexico Traffic Crash Data Analysis
For over 30 years, TRU has specialized in maintaining the New Mexico traffic crash (traffic accident) database and DWI (driving while impaired) database for the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) - Traffic Safety Division (TSD). We are contracted by NMDOT TSD to:
1. Identify traffic crash trends
2. Analyze the impact of traffic safety programs
3. Respond promptly to requests for data
4. Produce a variety of analytical reports
5. Maintain a GIS and state road database
6. Produce maps for displaying traffic crash data
These reports and maps are published for use by the state government, communities and public to guide decision-making on how to make New Mexico roads safer.
TRU maintains the traffic crash database on behalf of the Traffic Safety Division. TRU is available on a contract-basis for specific crash-related projects, assuming permission to use the data is granted by TSD to the client. Please note, TRU does not have the authority to release data without the consent of TSD.
