Accident Level Analysis File

The information found in the Accident Level Analysis file is derived from the Uniform Accident Reports. Uniform Accident Reports are compiled by police officers for reported crashes that occurred on public roadways that resulted in death, personal injury, or $500 or more in property damage according to the investigating officers judgement. No account is kept of unreported crashes or crashes that occurred on private property.

It is important to note that there is one record in the Accident Level Analysis File for each crash. That is, there can be more than one vehicle or multiple persons involved in a given crash. It is sometimes necessary to combine elements from one or more of these data (Accident, Occupant, and Detail) files to address many traffic safety related research questions.

Please contact the New Mexico Traffic Safety Bureau (1-505-827-0427) if you are interested in pursuing a research project that uses this database.
