There are different icons for demonstration data intended for public use and restricted data intended for the use of law enforcement and other government agencies. The restricted ARC/INFO modules are NOT available through anonymous FTP. Restricted ARC/INFO modules will require user authorization to initiate an FTP session.
Selected ArcView data modules and views can be downloaded from this Web page for those that have their own copies of ESRI's (Environmental Systems Research Institute) ArcView software. For those who would like to obtain a copy of the PC(Windows) version of ArcView version 1.0 that has been made publicly available, a link to ESRI's Web page is provided, or the software can be downloaded below. There will also be demonstration modules available later this year for ArcView 2 and 3 (which unlike Arcview 1.0, are not currently distributed on a no-cost basis).
Please note that not all of DGR's geographic(map based)
data will be immediately available
in ArcView, as DGR is currently in the process of preparing
ArcView presentations converted from its
GRNDB formatted data.
Expect to see much more ArcView demonstration data available during
1999 as DGR accelerates this conversion process.
UNM's CIRT department does not currently allow anonymous access to their FTP facility
due to security considerations.
DGR has consequently provided anonymous FTP access via ftp://wwwdgr.unm.edu/.
If the primary server is temporarily inaccessible, a back-up FTP server can be found at
ftp://lmspear.unm.edu/.
DGR is currently evaluating more dynamic and interactive (Internet based)
data query and map display facilities using software such as
Avenza's MapPublisher,
ESRI's ArcView and Map Objects Internet Map
Servers (IMS)
,
MapInfo's ProServer,
and
SAS's Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) used with
SAS's GIS software .
DGR hopes
to make use of these facilities in the near future once we select the
products that are best suited to our needs and budget requirements.
Some of the interactive map and data display demonstrations
that DGR is currently working on are available below.
These demonstrations are in the process of being revised.
If they are not available please try again later.
More information about these demonstrations can be found at
DGR's Auxillary
Web Server.
ArcView & Map Objects IMS Demonstrations
Although all of the information is nicely organized in ArcView and easily accessible using a desktop PC, a considerable effort was necessary to prepare this information in ArcView format. All the preparation of this data took place outside of ArcView using a combination of facilities such as SAS, DGR's GRNDB system, and ARC/INFO. The traffic crash matching and summarization facilities of the GRNDB and the Macro facilities of SAS prepared all the traffic crash, census, and demographic data before it was transferred to ARC/INFO and subsequently ArcView.
DGR is currently in the process of preparing ArcView version 2 and 3 based modules for most of the urbanized areas in New Mexico. These ArcView modules will eventually be distributed to local communities so that they can more easily review their traffic crash data and related information using their own desktop PC equipment.
A New Mexico statewide (rural roads) ArcView 2.1 demonstration is also
available. Please see the GIF (Map) files presented
below for examples of this statewide ArcView demonstration module.
