DGR assisted the New Mexico Secretary of State's Office and county clerks from 1984 through 1990 in redrawing voting precinct geography in preparation for the 1990 Census. This work resulted in the construction of a statewide geographic information system (GIS) that contains all the major visible features (roads, drainages, etc.) that could be used by each county to draw voting precinct boundaries. Some example county based maps produced from this GIS (derived from USGS 1:100k quadrangle and other federal and local sources) are presented here. The voting precinct boundaries on these county maps may have changed since 1990 after the New Mexico State Legislature performed redistricting and county clerks made subsequent changes for election purposes. However, the entire statewide GIS is still available at DGR in ARC/INFO and GRNDB formats.
The
Division of Government Research (DGR) is continuing to develop a web page
for the New Mexico 2000 United States Census and other demographic data.
This web page is part of DGR's public service function at UNM. It is intended
primarily for the public and also other governmental GIS users. In general,
public users do not have sophisticated GIS facilities. This web page will provide
easy access to data in interactive form and also in a simple to use free GIS package
(ESRI's ArcReader).
More sophisticated GIS and statistical users that have their own
facilities will be provided access to this data in ready-to-use formats that
can be further customized to their needs (ArcView, ArcMap, and SAS datasets).
This project (the CAAP - Census Aggregation and Accessibility Project) will
be developed slowly as resources are available.

CAAP.
