Roswell, NM ArcView (WWW) Demonstration Installation Instructions There are two ArcView (WWW) demonstrations available, one for ArcView1 and one for ArcView2. Each of these demonstrations is available in two formats: the self extracting .exe file and the compressed archive .zip file. YOU MUST HAVE A COPY OF ArcView TO USE THIS DEMONSTRATION DATA ONCE IT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. This is available from ESRI (www.esri.com). The instructions below are generally written for ArcView2 users. If you are using ArcView1, you should follow the parenthetical instructions labeled 'AV1'. To extract and load this demonstration from the .exe file do the following: - From your root directory (c:\) create a new directory called rosdem2 (AV1 use roswelld) using the following command: mkdir rosdem2 (AV1 command is: mkdir roswelld) - Go to this directory and place a copy of the rosdem2.exe (AV1 get roswelld.exe) file here. Note: You may place it in another directory, however, ArcView will be searching for files in this directory and you will have to redirect the pointers to the directory containing the data (see instructions below) - Type the following command: rosdem2 -d (AV1 command is: roswelld -d) Note: This will create sub-directory c:\roswelld\data (and c:\roswelld\views for AV1). The ArcView data is in the data directory (and the views are in the views directory for AV1). Please see the file roswelld.wp (word perfect 6) for a complete description of the data, projects, and views. To extract and load this demonstration from the .zip file do the following: - From your root directory (c:\) create a new directory called rosdem2 (AV1 use roswelld) using the following command: mkdir rosdem2 (AV1 command is: mkdir roswelld) - Go to this directory and place a copy of the rosdem2.zip (AV1 get roswelld.zip) file here. Note: You may place it in another directory, however, ArcView will be searching for files in this directory and you will have to redirect the pointers to the directory containing the data (see instructions below) - Type the following command: pkunzip -d rosdem2 (AV1 command is: pkunzip -d roswelld) Note: This will create sub-directory c:\roswelld\data (and c:\roswelld\views for AV1). The ArcView data is in the data directory (and the views are in the views directory for AV1). Please see the file roswelld.wp (word perfect 6) for a complete description of the data, projects, and views. If you have placed these files in a different directory than the one listed in these instructions, you must reroute the pointers ArcView is using to locate the data files by directing ArcView to the proper location each time a view is accessed. In ArcView2 you can reroute the pointers quickly by opening each .apr (project) file in a word processing program and performing a global find and replace command: find: c:\rosdem2\data replace with: If this method is used, the modified .apr file must be saved in ASCII (DOS) Text format. 8/22/96 Larry Spear, DGR-UNM (lspear@unm.edu) updated with ArcView2 information 12/18/96 Patrick S.
