Program OverviewThe Educational Psychology Program is designed to provide students with:
The program faculty are committed to help students develop the ability to apply this knowledge and these skills to the understanding, development, and evaluation of learning and instructional practices in a variety of contexts. Throughout its offerings, our goal is to help students develop an understanding of the role of individual andgroup differences as they affect learning and instruction. Educational Psychology FacultyThe following faculty have primary appointments in Educational Psychology:
JAN
ARMSTRONG
(Associate Professor, Program Coordinator) received her
Ph.D. from the
University of Minnesota in 1987. Her interests focus on
teaching and
learning in professional communities, qualitative research methods and
contextual human
development.
TERRI
FLOWERDAY (Associate Professor) received her Ph. D. from
the
University of Nebraska in 2000. [Dr. Flowerday is on
sabbatical leave from July 2008 to mid-January, 2009.] Her interests include
motivation,
cognition and instruction, human development, and reading and
literacy
issues. SCOTT C. MARLEY (Assistant Professor) received his Ph.D from
the
University of Arizona in 2005. His interests include research
methodology, applied statistics, Native American education, and reading
strategies. ROXANA MORENO (Associate Professor) received her Ph.D from
the
University of California, Santa Barbara in 1999. Her interests are in
applying
cognitive theories to educational technology, human-computer
interaction,
and multimedia learning.
GARY
J. OCKEY (Assistant Professor) received his Ph.D. from the
University
of California, Los Angeles in 2006. His interests include
language
acquisition and assessment, structural equation modeling
and item
response theory techniques.
JAY
PARKES (Associate Professor) earned his
Ph. D. in 1998 from the
Pennsylvania State University. His interests include
alternative assessment
techniques, applied statistics, and applied

See online application guide for more on this. For application materials, contact the IFCE Department Secretary (divbse@unm.edu), 505-277-4535. Be sure to indicate that you are interested in the Educational Psychology Graduate Program. If you have other questions after reviewing the information in the application packet, contact Dr. Jan Armstrong, Program Coordinator and Graduate Advisor (edpsy@unm.edu). Students are admitted in both the Spring and Fall semesters. Applications will be reviewed by our faculty when complete. Applicants will be notified of our preliminary program decision.
