Digital Media Arts Program: Communnity Projects

The UNMV and Digital Media Arts Community:

We in the Digital Media Arts Program, and throughout the University of New Mexico Valencia as a whole, are committed to the inclusion of the surrounding campus community in campus events and projects. We are dedicated not only to the success of our students, but of our entire communityand all people involved.

We are often involved in gallery shows and events with the community, not only in our very own professional and student galleries, but also within the gallery and museum community in our area. Please contact us at dmavc@unm.edu if you are interested in proposing a gallery show.

We are involved in a program with the local high-schools in a dual-credit program where high school students receive college credit for classes they take at their high school and in conjunction with a University class at the college. Many of the DMA classes offer high-school dual credit.

We have a Community Education program which offers Workforce Training, Cultural Enrichment Events, and many programs for children.

The Small Business Development Center assists business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs in making decisions affecting their businesses. The center offers four types of services: training, counseling, referral, and library resources.

The Learning Center contributes to the retention of students by facilitating student learning and to assist students in their academic achievement by the development of self-efficacy through forming attributes that sustain learning. This mission is accomplished by: peer and professional tutors trained to recognize and accommodate diverse learning styles, tutors who provide support to students in computer applications, access to state-of-the-art technology and software, workshops and seminars on basic skills, goal setting, learning strategies, and time management, and by course specific study groups and reviews.
