How I Was Given Official Permission to Swear by Almighty God Through His Loyal and Dedicated Servant Rev. Bill Morgan

Flow Hospital, Denton, Texas

November 1997

My dear wife of 53 years, Katherine McGuire, was hit by a debilitating stroke at precisely 5:45 PM on Monday, September 29, 1997. It was a terrible life-altering event that sorely affected our entire family, including David, Jr., Susan and Tim.

Our Golden Years, we realized very soon, had come to a catastrophic close and we were launched unceremoniously into our POST-Golden Years. From a life of freedom and joy, we moved to this period of learning how to survive and how to be care-givers. We had no other choice.

Bill and Jo Morgan had been close to us all through these early days of darkness and confusion. After a week in Zale-Lipshy Hospital in Dallas for brain surgery, Katherine was moved to Denton Flow Rehab Hospital for recovery.

We were in Flow Rehab when the Morgans came to visit and console. After a few words, Bill left Jo to talk to Katherine, took my arm gently and motioned toward the hallway.

We took a few slow steps to allow the hallway to clear. Then Bill pulled me close to whisper in my ear, "Dave, do you know how to swear?"

I answered, "Bill, you must remember I spent 5 years in the US infantry in WWII and Korea. Yes, I do know how to swear."

Bill responded, "Well, never mind any guilt feeling; I recommend you go ahead and swear! It will give you great relief!"

And you know something? He was right!

Now I have only to worry Katherine will hear me, otherwise I’ve been cleared by the Almighty!

P.S. Rev. Larry George, after hearing this story from me proclaimed: "THAT is vintage Bill Morgan!"
