Core Dean of Students Values Affirmations

  • Student first - decide for the student when issues do not compromise core institutional values or academic integrity
  • Putting students first does not mean always saying "yes" to students. "No" may be an educationally appropriate answer.
  • Differences are valued and respected; each person has worth and dignity.
  • Integrity, Integrity, Integrity - do the right thing, for the right reason, the right way*
  • Respect autonomy - give students freedom of action and choice*
  • Do no harm - avoid actions that hurt or place students at risk*
  • Benefit others - contribute to other's welfare; be part of resolving problems*
  • Be Just - treat students equally*
  • Be Faithful - keep promises; be loyal*
  • Be mindful that in modeling ethical decision-making, many profess but do not practice. Almost all who profess, sometimes fail.**
