

AGE
The age of the sample ranged from 31 to 61 years old
(see Figure 1). The mean age was 44.5 (SD = 7.12). Two
participants did not report their age.

PRACTICE
JURISDICTION
The participants reported licensure in 25
different states. The largest segment of the sample practiced in the
Northeastern US (see Figure 2). One participant was on active US
military duty practicing in Japan.

ETHNIC
BACKGROUND
The majority of the sample reported their
ethnicity as white (86.8%). One respondent did not identify any
ethnic background (see Table 1).

EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION
As shown in Figure 3, a master of science in nursing degree was the most often cited nursing education level of participants (n = 46).

Participants were also asked if they had additional education besides a fundamental nursing program. Four (7.4%) of them reported having earned a Master of Public Health degree and three (5.6%) had received a PhD in nursing or another field.
YEARS OF
PRACTICE
Figure 4 illustrates the number of years that
participants had practiced midwifery. The range spanned from 1 to 22
years. (M = 8.5, SD = 6.29). Two-thirds of the sample
reported practicing midwifery for 10 years or less.
