Application Procedures for M.A. and Ed.S. Programs in Educational Leadership

Thank you for your interest in obtaining an M.A. or Ed.S. in Educational Leadership. The Application Process Requires Two Steps: STEP 1: Completing a UNM Graduate Admissions Packet STEP 2: Completing an Educational Leadership Program Packet APPLICATION DEADLINES: The Educational Leadership Program reviews applications for the M.A. and Ed.S. on a continual basis. However, for assured consideration for admission for a particular semester, please note these deadlines: October 1st   -Spring Admission June 1st - Fall Admission February 1st - Summer Admission

IMPORTANT:

• Complete packets are due to each office by 5:00 p.m. on the appropriate deadline to be assured consideration for admission for the requested semester.
• Official transcripts are required for each packet. Please order these transcripts early. Vital: Send one official set directly to Admissions; the second set is to be sent directly to Educational Leadership, Admissions will not forward the transcripts to the program.

STEP I: GRADUATE ADMISSIONS PACKET

Admissions packets are available at www.unm.edu/grad/admissions/admissions.html. Follow directions for submitting the application. NOTE: The Educational Leadership Program strongly prefers that you choose the online application as it greatly facilitates the admissions process.

Special information for application completion:

Item: Indicate the semester you are applying for
Item: Degree sought: Indicate M.A. or Ed.S.

Item: Major Code: MA-LEAD (for M.A.) or EDSPC-LEAD (for Ed.S.)

• You need to submit one official transcript from each college or university you have attended. Send one set of transcripts (and paper application if you must use the paper application) to:

STEP 2: EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAM PACKET REQUIREMENTS

Educational Leadership Program Packets must include the following items:

1. Letter of Intent: (written statement not to exceed two pages)
Tell us about yourself as a person, learner, and leader and how this program can help you develop in these areas. This statement might include such information as

• Your educational experience and goals
• Your professional background and goals
• Your personal development
• Links between your personal, professional, and educational development
• Connections between your personal and professional goals and what you see the mission of this program
  

2. Official Transcripts Required: You need to submit one official transcript from each college or university you have attended directly to the Ed     Leadership Program, just as you did for the Graduate Admissions Packet.

3. Writing Sample: Applicants are required to submit an original an essay, in which you discuss a significant issue in Educational Leadership.
    In the writing sample, you should:

• Identify an important issue
• Justify why it is an important issue
• Explicate how you account for the issue and explain what might be done about it.
• You should not submit a writing sample that was generated for another purpose, e.g., master's thesis, classroom paper, etc. The writing sample should contain appropriate reference citations. It should be typed, approximately 750 words.
