In "Looking for Alaska," John Green's first novel, Miles Halter leaves his minor life in Florida to seek the "Great Perhaps" in Alabama at Culver Creek boarding school. Miles is taken in by a group of friends who introduce him to Alaska Young, a beautiful, enigmatic and troubled girl with whom he become immediately enamored. Through association with his new friends Miles is enlisted in a war against the Weekday Warriors, the townies who live at home. The story follows the gang of friends as they carry out elaborate pranks, leave the school grounds, break rules, and defy the school headmaster. Tragedy strikes midway when Alaska Young dies in a puzzling accident that devastates Miles and his friends and compels them to unravel the mysteries surrounding Alaska's death.
