English 101 & 102

English 101 and 102 are designed to give undergraduates the necessary critical reading and writing skills for their university career. All students are required to either complete these courses, or demonstrate their competency through one of the other approved methods (see the Writing Proficiency section).

English 101: Expository Writing
Students practice critical reading by analyzing and synthesizing arguments. In a final project, students map out the complex of issues pertaining to a particular topic.

English 102: Analysis and Argument
Students read public arguments and use written reasoning to respond persuasively to these arguments. They research, taking into account the issues they find interesting or that concern them, perspectives and needs of other writers.
