Course Description. In this writing course we will explore the intersections of popular culture and democratic practices in the contemporary United States. How can popular culture both enable and suppress critical thinking and public dialogue? We will explore the rhetoric of advertising, film, and news broadcasting, among other popular culture forms. Writing assignments range from short, in-class exercises to online discussion forums, to a culminating cultural analysis to be presented at the Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium.
