English 511.001: Topcs - Contemporary Feminist Thought
Fulfills Group E or Language and Theory requirement
In the first half of this course, we will study major themes, issues, and conflicts in contemporary feminist thought and provide a history of the transformation from early second wave feminist theory that tends to be universal and unified to later second wave feminism that becomes concerned with multiplicity, diversity, and postmodern constructions of identity, language, sexuality, etc. The course will cover such debated topics as the category of woman, politics of difference, the basis of feminist knowledge, the conception of power, the body, performances of gender, the stability of sexed and sexual identity and feminist engagements in mainstream politics.
