Engl. 520.001: Classical Rhetorical Tropes
This is the writing course you would have taken five hundred years ago—or twenty-five hundred years ago. Your writing and your analysis of others’ writing will be based upon classical rhetorical tropes. “Anadiplosis,” “erotesis,” “parrhsia,” and “parecbasis” are not diseases; rather, these and plethora of others are names of word and sentence and paragraph strategies that can still serve writers well. This is truly (Sophis)ticated writing. Several essays to be written; others to be read and analyzed. Text: Lanham, A Handlist of Rhetorical Terms.
