English 295.001:
Later English Literature
This course surveys three important groups of English writers --the Romantics, the Victorians, and the Modernists. Our study will concentrate on poetry and non-fictional prose, genres in which all three of these groups excelled. The anthology also includes some plays, enabling us to sample the drama of each period. Since these are also important eras in the history of the novel, each student will read and report on a full-length work of prose fiction.
The work of the course will include three exams and a paper.
