Service Learning

Veteran teachers have several teaching choices. One that has been very popular with teachers and students alike is Service Learning (SL). Students will spend several hours each week in a volunteer role with a school or other organization. Their assignments throughout the semester reflect on the work they are doing.

The English Department currently offers multiple SL classes in English 101, 102, 219, and 220 each semester. To learn more about the program, read through the "What is Service Learning?" documents. Future or current SL teachers may also want to use the included sequence and assignment samples from previous SL teachers. If you are teaching a Service Learning class, please contact Erin Lebacqz at elebacqz@unm.edu.
