Jim Burbank, Lecturer, has published over 200 articles for regional and
national publications His teaching interests extend from composition and
writing theory to environmental and nature writing.
Mike Cabot, Lecturer
Marisa Clark, Lecturer, teaches creative writing and composition. She is
currently completing her novel Hermosa and drafting the
nonfiction "Nobody Knows About My Man": Memoir of an Alter Ego.
Marisa coordinates the ESL sections of composition.
David Dunaway, specializes in broadcast and historical and literary documentaries. His 2001 series Across the Tracks aired nationally on stations for Route 66's 75th anniversary.
Michael Hogan, Professor Emeritus, teaches courses in intermediate expository
writing. He is a former director of the Freshman English Program.
Michelle Kells, Assistant Professor, specializes in civil rights rhetorics,
sociolinguistics, and composition/literacy studies.She is program chair of
the 2005-2006 Writing Across Communities Colloquia Series at UNM.
Erin Lebacqz, Lecturer, teaches English 101 and 102 and a range of undergraduate courses in the Professional Writing major. Her publications address issues of healthcare, education, and equal access. Erin is the coordinator for a new exchange program for teachers from APS and UNM.
Wanda Martin, Associate Professor, teaches courses at all levels of composition. Her research areas are writing program administration and teacher training.
Charles Paine, Associate Professor, teaches courses in classical rhetorical theory, documentation, visual design, and in teacher preparation. He is Associate Director of Rhetoric and Writing in charge of first-year writing and teacher training.
Susan Romano, Associate Professor, teaches courses in rhetoric and
composition history and theory. Recent and forthcoming publications examine
rhetoric and writing instruction in colonial and contemporary Mexico and in
the southwest borderlands. Susan is Director of Rhetoric and Writing.
Scott P. Sanders , Professor, has just finished an 8-year term as Chair of the Department. His research interests are in technical and scientific communication, and he teaches and writes about professional ethics, proposal writing, visual rhetoric, and editing. Currently Scott is working with the College of Arts and Sciences to develop an assessment protocol for online teaching. He is also in charge of the undergraduate professional writing intern program.
Jerome Shea, Emeritus, teaches courses in composition, traditional grammar, sylistics, classical tropes, history of the language, and professional rhetorics. He is currently researching the theory and history of prose and musical rhythm.
Valerie Thomas, Lecturer, teaches courses in grant writing, distance
education, and teaching writing to professionals. She coordinates English
219, Technical and Professional Writing, and oversees WebCT online courses
for the entire department.
