Sigma Tau Delta

In addition to the Departmental Honors Program, eligible students may participate in the University of New Mexico's Alpha Epsilon chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta International Honor Society. Sigma Tau Delta is the second largest honor society in the nation, offering a myriad of benefits to its members, including lifetime membership, scholarship and publishing opportunities, fellowship with other English students, community service, and the chance to attend national and international English conferences. Its goals are to promote mastery of written expression, to encourage worthwhile reading, and to foster a spirit of fellowship among its members. The UNM chapter of Sigma Tau Delta hosts several activities on campus and in the community, publishes a newsletter - The Signifier, maintains and staffs the English Department Library, and organizes fiestas and colloquia.

To be eligible for membership, students must be English majors or minors, have and maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 and an English GPA of 3.2, complete an application, and pay a one-time membership fee of $40. Applications are available from the English Department Undergraduate Office, Humanities 269. For more information contact the Sigma Tau Delta faculty advisor, the chapter officers, or the Undergraduate Director; current contact names and numbers may be found on the Sigma Tau Delta website.
