Information about the Internship

What tasks will the intern perform; what specific/general skills/experience do you seek?

Assisting the Publisher, Editor-in-Chief, Creative Director, and Director of Sales in day-to-day duties of running Albuquerque the Magazine, including managing photo, writing, marketing and advertising projects from start to finish, interacting with interview subjects, clients, advertisers and subscribers, and generally serving in an administrative role for the publication. ATM is a fast paced and deadline-driven environment, while being a very creative and enjoyable place to work.

What specific documents/communication projects will the intern work with and be able to present in a portfolio (or otherwise substantiate) upon completion of the internship?

Interns who submit acceptable material will be mentioned on staff page. Interns who have worked hard and collected a body of work will have access to portfolio tools.

How much supervision/mentoring will the intern likely receive or have available?

Interns will be assigned tasks, and will be assisted with the first few projects. After an intern gets the hang of it, they will be encouraged to work independently as well as submit their own ideas.

Is the internship paid or a volunteer opportunity? Volunteer

Expected range of hours worked per week (cannot exceed 20) 10 to 15 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. M-F and 4 hours/day subject to intern's schedule.

Expected duration (normally cannot be less than 4 weeks) 1 semester

1 Publishing Intern, who will assist publisher Larryl Lynch

Publishing intern will assist publisher with duties of running the magazine including:

  • Managing photo, writing, marketing and advertising projects
  • Interacting with interview subjects, clients, advertisers and subscribers
  • Generally serving in an administrative role for publication

2-3 Editorial Interns, who will assist Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Lancaster

Editorial Interns will work on specific projects, articles, and issues.

  • Interns must have excellent time management skills
  • Interns should have experience in writing and/or research
  • Interns must be able to commit to scheduled blocks of time.

1 Creative Design Intern, who will assist Creative Director Andrew Fearnside

Creative Design Intern:

  • Prefer that Intern be an Art, Photography, or Graphic Design major
  • Prefer that Intern have training and/or professional experience in the print design programs in the Adobe Creative Suite—InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Intern must have experience with Office programs.
  • Intern must be able to type 25+ words a minute

1 Media/Accounts/Administrative Intern, who will assist Director of Sales Helen Reddish

  • Intern should be well spoken with good time-management skills and interested in promotion, marketing, and advertising
  • Duties include handling telephone prospects, preparing and delivering media kits, as well as administrative tasks.
