Information about the Internship

What tasks will the intern perform; what specific/general skills/experience do you seek?

Monthly TNT newsletter & website: Organize and write articles, solicit information from TNT coaches, participants and honorees. Print and prepare for distribution. Submit information to website administrator on events and training tips.

Media development: Assist in developing relationships with local radio, TV and print; solicit sponsorships. Prepare press releases and newspaper stories to coordinate with recruitment and ongoing promotion of TNT events

Must have excellent writing skills. Prefer a student in professional writing or creative writing, but willing to cinsider any motivated students in the English department

What specific documents/communication projects will the intern work with and be able to present in a portfolio (or otherwise substantiate) upon completion of the internship?

Intern will have monthly newsletters, press releases and newspaper stories to present in a portfolio.

How much supervision/mentoring will the intern likely receive or have available?

Quite a bit if needed. Campaign director spent over 15 years as aprofessional writer in advertising and public relations, and received an MA in creative writing from UNM. Willing to mentor a good writer in many aspects of public relations, marketing, and fundraising for non-profits. Can assist the intern with portfolio development and job-seeking.

Is the internship paid or a volunteer opportunity? volunteer with possiblity of paid work in time.

Expected range of hours worked per week (cannot exceed 20) 12 - 15 hours per week

Expected duration (normally cannot be less than 4 weeks) Prefer through mid-December, but at least 10 weeks.

TEAM IN TRAINING is the world's largest endurance training porgram for runners, walkers, cyclists and triathletes. Under the direction of certified coaches, TNT participants train for marathons, century rides and triathlons. We then send them on trips to athletic events in exciting destinations like San Diego, Disney World and Lake Tahoe. In return, our athletes raise funds to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. Check the website for more information.

We are looking for two interns with excellent writing skills to help us with marketing and communications projects. If you want real-world experience, references and the opportunity to build a portfolio, this may be an ideal position for you. We offer a supportive environment where you can learn new skills and enhance existing ones. You may earn UNM credit (check with department for policy). Hours are flexible to accomodate class schedules, but must be between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
