Information about the Internship

What tasks will the intern perform; what specific/general skills/experience do you seek?

Editing that will range from short newspaper articles to book chapters and magazine articles. I hope to work with students who are familiar with Word tracking features - or are willing to learn "on-line" editing.

What specific documents/communication projects will the intern work with and be able to present in a portfolio (or otherwise substantiate) upon completion of the internship?

Varies, but may include newspaper articles, continuing medical education documents, magazine articles and book chapters. The content will be science, medicine and health-related topics. A science background is not necessary. When possible, I will acknowledge their work.

How much supervision/mentoring will the intern likely receive or have available?

As much as is needed.

Is the internship paid or a volunteer opportunity? Volunteer

Expected range of hours worked per week (cannot exceed 20) Approximately 40-60 hours per semester

Expected duration (normally cannot be less than 4 weeks) 1-2 semesters, possibly full year

Location of the work: I have a home office and I work at UNM. We will meet at a location of mutual convenience. Frequent e-mail communication.

Other pertinent information:

Candidates must have successfully completed at least 6 upper level Professional Writing credits. Candidate must submit a well-edited e-mailed letter of interest.
