Information about the Internship

What tasks will the intern perform; what specific/general skills/experience do you seek?

Student would assist with all aspects of external communications for state’s only national museum. Written and verbal skills will be practiced in the realms of marketing, media and public relations, development, and events. Creativity, attention to detail, and ability to manage time well are vital skills.

What specific documents/communication projects will the intern work with and be able to present in a portfolio (or otherwise substantiate) upon completion of the internship?

Student will write news releases, newsletter articles, and other copy as needed; take photographs at museum events; assist with public relations efforts; some desktop publishing, and proofreading.

How much supervision/mentoring will the intern likely receive or have available?

Student will receive regular feedback and supervision from Director of Marketing and PR as well as support and assistance from all departments of museum.

Is the internship paid or a volunteer opportunity? Volunteer

Expected range of hours worked per week (cannot exceed 20) Approximately 10 hours, depending on student’s availability and school schedule

Expected duration (normally cannot be less than 4 weeks) Spring semester 2008

Location of the work: Student would conduct most work at museum, but occasional “take-home” writing projects could be arranged.
