Due date: Friday Feb. 18 -- BRING YOUR PIECE & 2 COPIES OF WRITE-UP TO CLASS

You have two options for this project: a short paper (go to Option 1) or Option 2:

what’s your gender?

The purpose of this project is to stimulate your thinking about who you are, how you perceive the world, and how you arrived at the identity or beliefs you now hold with regard to sex and gender.

1. Produce a visual representation of how you express/experience your own gender. You can use the figure below as a starting place, or you can create an entirely original piece using images and/or 3-dimensional materials. Note: You are strongly encouraged to make something OTHER THAN a collage (unless you have developed a particularly advanced or original collage technique). Feel free to talk w/ me about your ideas for this aspect of the project.

 2. Write 2-3 pages (typed, double-spaced) explaining your piece and the origins of your gender. What do the elements you chose for your piece represent/mean to you? What do they signify/symbolize with regard to gender? Please identify their most important sources – what do you think have been the most significant influences on the development of your gender? (This is an important aspect of your write-up.) Make at least one reference to an assigned reading or film, use citations correctly and include footnotes or a bibliography (see Option 1 guidelines on citations & bibliography).
