Team Presentations, Round Two
As with round one, presentations will be approximately 20 minutes in length. See the website for the presentation schedule. Visuals (overheads, handouts, a PowerPoint presentation) are officially required for this one; bring cheap treats if you like. If you need a projector or other equipment, please let me know in advance (an overhead projector is already in the classroom; you may want to come to class a bit early to set up equipment). Remember: part of your grade rests on the overall quality of your presentation and the active participation of all team members.
Introduction
Introduce yourselves -- the name of your team, your members, and your topic.
(It's a good idea to list everyone's names in your visual materials.)
Theoretical Framework and Research Questions
Summarize the theoretical framework(s) in which your study is situated, including
pertinent themes of previous work on the topic. Since
you've reviewed and revised your literature
review,
what
are the theories and/or hypotheses that your study is currently designed
to test/explore? Explain any revisions you've made to your project since
Presentation #1 and corresponding changes
in the theory and literature that you've identified as most important.
Research Question, Concepts, Operationalization & Measures
Present your refined research question. Identify and define the main concepts
in your research question, and explain how you have operationalized them
in your data collection instrument. What are the independent and
dependent variables in your study? How are you measuring them? For each of your
indicators, what is the level of measurement (nominal, ordinal, interval,
ratio)?
Data Analysis
What kind
of data have been/will be collected to investigate
your
question?
Where/from whom have you collected these data? How did you
select your sample? Address sample generalizability (how well does your sample
represent
the target population? To what other populations can you generalize?). What
are your methods of data collection and your procedures for analyzing the
data? How did/will you interpret your indicators?
Findings
What do your data tell you? Present your findings (if available) in some kind
of visual way (frequency table, crosstab, whatever's most appropriate) and
explain what your findings mean. What associations exist among your variables?
Which
of these
were expected/unexpected?
Implications
If your study
tests a hypothesis, was the hypothesis supported or
not?
How
do/will your
findings
reflect
on
the
theoretical
framework
you have posed? Do your
fiindings
agree or disagree with previous
work in the field? What further issues are raised by your project, and what
questions might you propose for further study?
