Soc 280.003, Homework #4: Concepts, indicators and measurement in South & Spitze

Read Schutt pgs 91-109. Review the article by South & Spitze (Schutt C-8 - C-26). Identify TWO concepts that South and Spitze use in their research on housework. For each of these two concepts:
1. How do they define the concept? (Write down South & Spitze's definition.)
2. How do they operationalize the concept? Another way of asking this is: how did they measure this concept? What are the variables and/or indicators associated with the concept?
3. In their study, is the concept used as an independent variable, or as a dependent variable? How/why?
