Assignment
#7: Chi-Square Test of Independence
1. Pick 2 categorical variables from GSS with at least three responses each. Would you expect your two variables to be statistically independent from one other? Why or why not?
2. Show the table of counts (cross-tab) and generate the Pearson's chi-square.
3. Decide whether or not to reject the hypothesis of independence of the responses to the two survey questions.
4. Turn in:
1) your output
and
2) a brief
write-up
answering the question in #1 and explaining a) the value and
statistical
significance of your Chi-square statistic, b) whether or not you reject
the null, c) whether or not your two variables appear to be
independent,
and d) your own hypothesis as to why this might be so.
