ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Contact the Center of Academic Program Support (CAPS) for tutoring and study-skill workshops, (Zimmerman Library, 3rd floor), or the ESS Tutoring for study groups. (Tappy Hall, Room 222)

• Join a study group
• Find a tutor to help you with the difficult subjects
• Adjust your lifestyle so you can have more time for your education

DECIDING TO DROP A COURSE
Ask yourself a few questions: What is the cause of your performance? Can it be improved? Will dropping a class impact a scholarship or financial aid? Is the class required? When will you be able to retake the class?

• Determine the timeline and appropriate course of action
• Talk to your instructor about your performance and grades
• Talk to your advisor about options
• Take action to meet deadlines

HOW AND WHEN TO DROP A COURSE
Students may drop courses during the semester; however, to drop a course without a grade, you must drop that class prior to the deadline (see chart below). If you need to drop a course after the deadline, talk with your professor before making an appointment to see the Associate Dean for permission to drop.

REPEATING A COURSE AND REPLACEMENT OF GRADE
You may repeat a course, but will receive credit for the course only once (this could impact scholarships as well). All attempts and all grades are computed in your grade point average unless you petition to have the grade replaced. A grade replacement may be applied to only 12 hours of repeated course work. Petitions to replace grades are accepted at the Records Office. See the UNM catalog for additional details about repeating a course or call (505) 277-2916.
