Dance 116 Mexican Folk Dance (3 credits) Section 001: MW 4:00-5:20 CG 116 Miguel Caro-Zaragoza
An introduction to the dynamic dances and styles of the different states of Mexico. $13 course fee.

An introduction to the movement, polyrhythmic music and meanings of West and Central African dance. $48 course fee.

Participation in university theatre and dance season through assignment on a production crew. Credit/no credit basis only.

Dance 204 Stretch and Strength (3 credits) Section 001: TR 9:30-10:45 CG North Arena Jennifer Predock-Linnell
Specialized floor work training using principles of the Pilates Method of Physical and Mental Conditioning and the basic movement concepts of Core Dynamics. For preparing and maintaining a uniformly developed body for dance and movement. $29 course fee.

Dance 210 Modem Dance II (3 credits) Section 001: TR 9:00-10:50 CG South Arena Bill Evans
This course is designed for intermediate and advanced level modern dancers and advanced level ballet and jazz dancers wanting to learn more about modem dance. Students will explore the Evans Laban-Based Modern Dance Technique, which is taught in schools and colleges throughout North America. This technique includes both skill and expression in movement and will increase the student's experience of freedom while dancing. The focus is on healthful technique practices allowing students to develop habits that will extend their dance careers and deepen their satisfaction in moving. Requirements include reflective writing assignments and student-created movement projects. Restricted: permission of instructor required. $48 course fee.

This course is designed for intermediate and advanced level tap dancers. Musical theatre students are encouraged to enroll. Students will explore rhythm tap--a musical and visual/kinesthetic performing art form. Each class will include improvisation. Mid-term and final projects will be student-choreograped rhythm tap studies. $44 course fee.

Dance 308 St/Contact Improvisation (3 credits) Section 001: MW 11:00-12:15 CG South Arena Donna Jewell
Contact Improvisation is open for all students. Previous dance training not required. The course teaches how to give and take weight, providing a safe and explorative environment for students to leam how to partner and how to create movement involving another person. Highly recommended for dance and theater students. $48 course fee.

Dance 310 Modern Dance III (3 credits) Section 001: MWF 9:00-10:50 CG South Arena Donna Jewell
Modem III is for high intermediate/advanced dance students who have taken Modem I and II. The course concentrates on efficient use of weight in the modem tradition and involves a warm-up beginning on the floor. Long phrase material in the last half of the class requires stamina, musicality, and artistic expression. The first week of class will serve as the audition process for the course. Restricted: permission of instructor required. $48 course fee.

Dance 311 Choreography I (3 credits) Section 001: TR 2:30-4:20 CG South Arena Bill Evans
This course explores the creative process in dance. Students will team to creative and develop choreographic material and to create and perform solo dance compositions in a supportive and non-judgmental atmosphere. They will also learn how to reflect upon and speak about choreographic studies in non-judgmental language. Emphasis is on honoring the uniqueness of the individual and allowing each student to discover her/his expressive voice. Prerequisite: 212. $23 course fee.

Structural analysis of movement. Basic understanding of the skeletal and neuromuscular systems of the human body in movement. $23 course fee.

Guided independent work in choreography with a faculty artists, culminating in a format or informal performance. Prerequisite: 212 and 311. $17 course fee.

Dance 416 or Dance 516 Dance Pedagogy (3 credits) Section 001: TR 11:30-12:15 CG 114 Jennifer Predock-Linnell
This course wilt introduce the fundamental theories and principles of dance curriculum and the concepts ad methods for teaching movement in schools, colleges and studios. Familiarity with movement methods and concepts includes a knowledge of developmental stages of differing age groups. Emphasis will be on creating philosophical/theoretical models that might serve as the foundation for the subsequent development of courses of study or sequenced curricula. See instructor about additional work for graduate level (Dance 516). $23 course fee.

Observation and written analysis of dance events with an emphasis on contemporary theories and performances. $23 course fee.

Dance 464 or Dance 564.001 or WS 479 Dance History III (3 credits) Section 001: TR 1:30-2:50 CG 114 Judy Chazin Bennahum
This course moves through 20th century dance history focusing on the Female Dancing Body as the site of race, class and gender issues. It was primarily women choreographers who changed the way movement performance and expression occurred. Conservative attitudes toward the body persisted, however the work of these dance pioneers considerably changed traditional expectations. $23 course fee.
