General (Liberal Arts) Curriculum:

  1. Courses outside the major:
    1. 40 hours selected from courses offered by departments of the College of Arts and Sciences including core curriculum requirements (see Fine Arts Graduation Requirements 6.). Specific requirements include English 220, Expository Writing and as many semesters of one foreign language as are necessary for completion of the fourth semester course in that language. These will partially satisfy the college requirements for courses outside the major.
    2. 6 hours selected from other departments of the College of Fine Arts (dance, fine arts, media arts, music and theatre) or from the School of Architecture and Planning; and
    3. 14 additional hours selected from courses outside the major offered by any college, including Fine Arts.
  2. Major in Art History:
    1. 39 hours in art history courses, including 201-202, History of Art I & II, and 250, Modern Art; also required are three courses in art history chosen from:
      • 261 or 262, World Architecture I or II;
      • 315, Ancient Art;
      • 321, Early Medieval Art;
      • 322, High Medieval Art;
      • 331, Early Renaissance Art;
      • 332, Art of the High Renaissance;
      • 340, Baroque Art;
      • 352, Renaissance Art in Northern Europe;

      and one course taken from among the following:

      • 251, Artistic Traditions of the Southwest;
      • 303, Asian Art;
      • 343, Pre-Columbian Architecture;
      • 401, African and Oceanic Art;
      • 402-406, Native American Art I, II;
      • 411-412, Pre-Columbian Art: Mesoamerica & South America

      plus 18 hours in courses numbered 300 or above.

    2. 9 hours in studio courses including Art Studio 106, Drawing I, a course taken from 121, Two-Dimensional Design, or 122, Three-Dimensional Design and 3 additional hours of studio.
  3. Additional courses in any field, including art.
