Recovering datasets (and GDS) that have rolled off ISPF

1.      Find the name of the dataset you need to recover.

EX:

The dataset you are trying to recover is created daily and you want one that was created 8 days ago, but you only keep 6 generations.

Calculate the generation number by subtracting one (1) for each day.  In this example you would want to go 2 generations back from the oldest, or back to DPC.FL20.FFDIFL.BKUP.G2704V00 (don’t include weekends).

2.      Make sure the dataset is cataloged.

·        Allocate the desired dataset in =U.3.2 (using the desired generation number if a GDS).

3.      Go to =U, I, 1  (the DATA SET SELECTION ENTRY PANEL under Interactive Storage Management Facility). Enter the name of the dataset you just allocated and hit enter.

4.       On the next screen enter the command HRECOVER under LINE OPERATOR and hit enter.

5.      Change the N to Y under Recover (Y/N) and hit enter

6.      On the next screen you must
