I received my B.A in Early Childhood/Special Education from National Taichung University, Taiwan, and my M.A. in TESOL/Bilingual Education from the University of Findlay in Ohio. I am currently working on my doctorate in Educational Linguistics at UNM. I have been a public school teacher in Taiwan and New Mexico and I enjoy teaching in various settings, including Chinese/English languages and cultures for children and adults. With over ten years of language teaching experience, the main inspiration for my research interests is language acquisition for second language learners and individuals with special needs. My research focuses on cross-linguistic and cross-cultural diversities in second language conceptual development, which has crucial pedagogical implications

I received my B.A in Teaching Chinese as A Second Language from Sichuan Normal University, China. I am currently working on my M.A in Comparative Literature & Cultural Studies at UNM. My research interests include race and gender (multicutural feminism), culture & imperialism and cultural identity.

Caley received her BA in Classics and Foreign languages from UNM in 2010. She has attended intensive ancient Greek summer programs at UC Berkeley and The Latin and Greek Institute in NYC. She is currently working on her master's thesis on the threat and allure of female erotic agency in Greek poetry and enjoys being an instructor of beginning Latin and intermediate ancient Greek. Her areas of research include ancient Greek poetry, gender/sexuality, and classical reception.

Samantha Perea was born and raised right here in the beautiful Albuquerque area. Recently in the spring of 2012 she graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies and a minor in music. After overcoming that milestone she is currently pursuing her M.A and teaching Latin 101 in the fall of 2012. Her interests lie in poetry and ancient music, particularly ancient Greek music in mythology and drama.

After joining the the Classics department in 2009, Kelle began her study of Latin and ancient Greek. Her original research is in the perspectives of immortality and the roles of women in ancient Greece. She received her B.A. in Classics in the Spring of 2012 and is currently working on her M.A. at UNM. Kelle is also currently an instructor of introductory Latin. The classical collective works on Lucy Lawless and Kevin Sorbo have influenced Kelle's ever inspiring passion for classical studies and still continues to fuel her desire to possess super human strength and an intimidating battle cry.

I am Jordan Wiegand. I am pursuing an M.A. in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies, with a focus in Classics. My interestes are in the classical Natural Law as it is found in the early Greek works. I teach ancient Greek and Latin at the beginning and intermediate levels.

After receiving his International Baccalaureate Degree from UWCSEA in Singapore, Hong Yoong traveled half way across the world to pursue his B.A. in Classical Art and Archaeology at Hood College (Frederick, MD). He then obtained an M.A. in Classical Literature from Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) where he became engrossed with Ovidian literature and its reception. Now he's continuing his academic rigors with another M.A. in Comparative Literature from UNM while teaching various undergraduate classes to those who are interested. Apart from Ovid's work, Hong's interests include Gender and Feminisim, Narratology, Film and Video Games Studies.

I received my BA in European Studies from UNM in May 2010. I am currently a graduate student working toward my Master’s degree in Cultural Studies in the Foreign Language and Literatures department. My main interests include France, French culture and cooking. I would like my Master’s thesis to look at cultures, specifically in Western Europe, from a culinary perspective and how food can relate to and influence those cultures. In my free time, I enjoy reading and finding and experimenting with new recipes. I also love to travel, learn and experience new things.

I received my BA from Sorbonne in 2010. Now, I am a Brazilian pursuing a master’s degree in French literature in the U.S. I like to think of myself as a cosmopolitan person who is passionate about people, places and novelties (not necessarily in that order).I am mostly interested in erotic literature, literary perversions and the apparition of the body in nineteen century literature. In my free time, I read random curiosities and practice my amateur writing side.

My name is Alain Antoine and I was born in Paris, France. For the last forty-four years, however, I have lived mainly abroad with stays of various lengths in Germany, Sweden, India, Turkey, and Kurdistan. I have been in the United States for 17 years. I have a deep interest in other cultures and languages and I am fascinated by both the extreme diversity and the profound unity of the human race. I am pursuing a Ph. D. In French Studies and I chose the French Studies department to deepen the understanding of French culture I am supposed to have by virtue of my birth. I am especially interested in poetry and theater and love to discover or re-discover authors heretofore neglected.

I went to the University of Arkansas in French/ English creative writing. For the 2011-2012 school year, I participated in a TA exchange through UNM, going to the Université de Savoie in France as a language instructor. I am currently teaching two sections of FR 201 and pursuing an MA in French. My literary fields of interest fall anywhere between Rabelais and comic books.

I am a native speaker born in the French Alps and raised in Paris. I received my B.A in English and American Literature and Civilisation from the Université de Savoie in 2011. I have been a teaching assistant of French in Northen England and am currently working on my M.A in Comparative Literature at UNM. I am deeply interested in American Literature and its cultural difference to European Literature. I will be teaching French 101 in Fall 2012.

Rosie Hutchinson has studied French at the University of Puget Sound and the University of New Mexico and has participated in two exchange programs, studying in Dijon and later teaching in Chambéry, France for two years. Her field of study is modern French and Francophone African literature, especially works dealing with gender, the formation of identity, and negotiating economic change. She is presently interested in the philosophy and performance of French and African rap music.

Olga is currently pursuing her MA in French at the University of New Mexico. She received her BA in French with a minor in Secondary Education in 2009 from UTEP. Olga has taught French 101 and 102 at UNM. Her area of interests includes Algerian/Maghrébine Literature with a special focus on women’s identity and women’s role within a post-colonized era. Other areas of interest include medieval authors such as Chrétien de Troyes, Marie de France, and the romantic author Chateaubriand. She looks forward to pursuing a career in education.

I received my Licence (B.A.) in English & American Studies in 2011 and my Maîtrise (first year of M.A.) in American Studies in 2012, both from the University of Rennes 2, France. My thesis was about the origins and tendencies of French Theory in America. Here at UNM I am going to pursue a M.A. in CLCS with a concentration in Cultural Studies. I am also going to teach FREN 101 and FREN 202 this fall. I am looking forward to meeting you all in class!

My name is Sun Ray Verstraete. I am currently seeking a Master’s in French Literature. I hope to study the French Enlightenment, atheism and irreligion as well as the influences and repercussions it has on philosophy, literature, politics and culture in France. After transferring from Penn State, I obtained my B.A. of French and Spanish at the University of New Mexico in 2010. I hope to inspire a critical dissection of Francophone culture and a fun approach to learning the French language by exploring cultural icons and memes.

Dr. Christian Wood is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in French Studies. He obtained an M.A. in French in 2009, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy in 2010, both at the University of New Mexico. His literary field of interest includes Love in the 20th century, with a specific aim toward so-called "Existentialist" thinkers and the extent to which their views on love inform their ethical and political views(and, perhaps, vice-versa).

My name is Kim Thomas and I am a student in the German Studies program. I am pursuing a master’s degree in German. I am interested in theater, specifically during the time period from the late 19th through the early 20th century. I am also interested in the early days of film and ancient Greek and Roman history.

I received my BA in German and Linguistics from NMSU in 2011. I am beginning my Masters program in German studies this fall and am looking forward to applying what I’ve learned so far into teaching German 101 as well as furthering my knowledge of German culture and literature. My interest in the German language was sparked in High School when I joined an exchange program and hosted two students and spent four weeks in Germany. In 2009 I spent a semester studying abroad in Berlin at the GLS Sprachenzentrum where my knowledge of the language and culture grew tremendously.

I am very excited to be a TA in Elementary Japanese and introduce the Japanese culture and language to the students at UNM. I received my BA and MA in linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and I am currently working on my PhD at UNM focusing on language universals/linguistic typology and language change. I am a native of Fukuoka, a prefecture in the south of Japan. In my free time, I love to travel, draw and cook..

I received my MA degree in Linguistics in May 2009. I have been teaching Russian 101/Russian 102 at FLL since Fall 2008. I am really happy that Russian language is becoming more and more popular in New Mexico.
