Foreign Languages and Literatures at University of New Mexico

FLL Undergraduate Russian & Russian Studies Programs

FLL offers two programs of studies for students interested in the language, history, and culture of Russia. The degree in Russian (offered as a major, second major, and minor) emphasizes language proficiency and Russian literature, while the interdisciplinary program of Russian Studies (offered as a major and a minor) gives students a broader knowledge of modern Russia and Eastern Europe through the study of humanities, language, literature, and the social sciences.

While many students who study Russian or Russian Studies continue on to graduate programs, the programs also prepare students for careers in government service, business, and education.

Students of both Russian and Russian Studies are encouraged to spend a semester or a summer in an intensive language program in Russia. UNM has an exchange with the University of the Russian Academy of Education in Nizhny Novgorod that includes regular UNM tuition and easy transfer of academic credits.
