Karen A. Foss, Professor of Communication & Journalism, has been at the University of New Mexico since 1993.  She has served as chair of Communication & Journalism, Director of Graduate Studies for C&J, and Director of Women Studies.  She was named Regents Professor at UNM for 2006-2009 and Presidential Teaching Fellow for 2004-2006. In 2005, she received the Gender Scholar of the Year Award from the Southern States Communication Association.

 

Dr. FossÕs research interests include contemporary rhetoric and criticism, social movements and social change, and feminist perspectives on communication.  She is co-author of Women Speak:  The Eloquence of WomenÕs Lives, Inviting Transformation:  Presentational Speaking for a Changing World, Contemporary Perspectives on Rhetoric, Feminist Rhetorical Theory, and Theories of Human Communication.  She is presently working on a book for popular audiences, titled Color Up:  Decisions to Thrive With, about thinking beyond the binary; and a book on gender and communication.

 

Dr. Foss regularly teaches feminist rhetorical theory; rhetorical criticism; rhetorical theory; women, agency, and change; and public speaking.
