Most high school seniors look forward to going to college.  They know that it's going to be a new and different experience.  Students, however, do not always understand the changes required to succeed in college.  To explore these changes, we will conduct a research project in which students interview faculty members and upperclassmen to determine the factors that help students succeed in college.  Some of the questions explored are: How are college professors different than high school teachers?  Why is tutoring so popular on college campuses?  Why do most students take more than four years to graduate?  What are the keys to college success?  Essay writing skills developed in ISE 100 will be applied in this course.

In this FLC, we will introduce students to the rich and vibrant experiences that have shaped the development of diverse Chicana and Chicano communities in the United States. The course illustrates how Mexican descent people and the communities have maintained rich and vibrant cultures in the U.S borderlands region and in U.S. society. Students, in the company of their FLC instructors, will visit cultural and historical sites of significance in the New Mexico region and understand how issues of race, class, gender and sexuality continue to influence dynamic Mexican American communities and cultures.  Essay writing skills developed in ISE 100 will be applied in this course.
