Since 2001, University College has offered the Living & Learning Communities (LLC), and they are created uniquely for you! We hope you will consider being an active participant in this program because the first semester of college is a time of adventure, changes, and new beginnings. We created the LLC to help you have a well-rounded academic and social experience. We have a comprehensive offering of almost all main academic areas that students typically major in at UNM. The students who participate in the LLC have a richer, broader, and more engaging educational experience at UNM.
Living
Choose from eight different areas of interest in the LLC. Each LLC consists of 20 students who share academic interests, an apartment style residence hall, and attend common courses together. Each apartment is fully furnished and has individual bedrooms for each student with a kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Living in this type of informal but engaging atmosphere provides you with many academic and social opportunities to help you become a successful university student, inside and outside of the classroom.
Learning
The LLC seminars are the focus of each LLC, and are taught by UNM staff and graduate students. They promote a student-centered and community-oriented learning environment. LLC students are introduced to many new opportunities in order to have a broader awareness of their majors, goals and interests. Along with the LLC seminars, students will take courses that pertain to their particular academic area in the LLC.
Community
Each LLC is a community of students, residence hall advisors, and instructors. Students have the opportunity to live with peers, form study groups, attend classes together and become more involved in on-campus activities. The LLCs provide a network for you to have a smooth transition from high school to the university, and to be more engaged in your learning!

The complete the application process to be accepted into the LLC for 2012:
- Apply for Admission to UNM
- Reserve your housing space with Housing Reservations, indicating the "RVA"
- Purchase your meal plan. All incoming freshmen living on campus are required to by a meal plan
- You can download the LLC program application to view the program details, but please SUBMIT your application ONLINE by clicking: Online LLC Application
- All first-time, incoming freshmen should also make sure they have reserved a space in their respective freshman summer orientation at the following sites, when their reservation process becomes available:

The deadline to apply and participate in the LLC for fall 2012 will be July 18, 2012.

The Lobo Reading Experience (LRE)
The Lobo Reading Experience (LRE) is a university wide educational experience where students, staff and faculty engage in various ways with a common text. The LRE is in its fourth year and for the academic year 2012-2013, the selected title is "The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind" by William Kamkwamba.
Living & Learning Communities will engage with this intriguing narrative, and have various opportunities to interact with the University as a whole, in this reading experience.
