The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), also known as the
Buckley Amendment, is the federal statute that governs student
educational records. Everyone who works with student records should be
familiar with the law's provisions governing students' rights to access
their records, students' rights to amend their records, and students'
rights to limit disclosure of personally identifiable information. The
Office of the Registrar offers a workshop that covers these aspects of
the federal law, as well as our responsibilities to protect the
confidentiality of student education records. Questions regarding the
application of the law in your particular area are encouraged.
