Personal Statement


Your application packet must include a personal statement of interest written by you. It should address how you expect to gain from your participation in the Freshmen Summer Bridge Program.


Suggestions


  • Your statement should be at least one page (single spaced) in length.

  • Speak with teachers, counselors and others about suggestions on how to write the statement.

  • Your statement should address:
    • Your academic accomplishments
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Community service
    • Your academic goals
    • Your career goals
    • Family support
    • Why should you be selected to participate in the FSBP?
    • Other information
  • Your personal statement is your chance to market yourself.
  • Construct an outline of your paper before writing.
  • After you have written your rough draft ask someone to proof read and edit it for you. It would be in your favor to ask an English teacher.
  • Rewrite your statement incorporating editorial comments.
  • A second proof reading is always a good idea.
  • Finalize your paper.
